How it works

How do I measure distance on the nautical chart?

Automatic route planning makes it easy to measure distance on the nautical chart.

Measure distance in Skippo's app

There are two ways to measure distance in the app. The first is to measure the distance as the crow flies between only two points:

  1. Go to the "Plan" tab.
  2. Tap on a spot on the nautical chart.
  3. Tap on "Measure" (by dragging the row of buttons to the left if you don't see "Measure" initially on a smaller screen).
  4. Move around the chart to measure the distance.

The second, more accurate way to measure distance is:

  1. Go to the "Plan" tab.
  2. Click on the chart to select the endpoint.
  3. Click on "Route here".
  4. Then select the starting point. You can do this by freely searching in the search field, selecting your home harbor, choosing a spot on the chart, or selecting your current position.
  5. We calculate the distance in nautical miles, which adjusts as you move the start and end points on the chart. Move the endpoint by dragging it or holding down on the chart where you want to move it.

Measure distance in the web planning tool

  1. Go to https://skippo.se/plan.
  2. Click on the chart to select the endpoint.
  3. Click on "Create route".
  4. Choose whether you want to create a route from "Home harbor" or "Choose on the chart".
    • If you choose "Choose on the chart", click on the chart to select the starting point.
  5. We calculate the distance in nautical miles, which adjusts as you move the start and end points on the chart.
